Renovation

Renovation underway to better serve our communities

Thanks to the continuing support of the communities we serve, we are in the process of renovating and improving our building and parking lot at 10330 Portage Rd. to meet City of Portage codes that must be completed by 12/31/2024. Working with a team of community professionals and board members with related expertise, we’ve determined an estimate of about $520,000 to complete the required repairs and renovations. Architectural renderings are printed and hanging in the pantry meeting room, and we welcome everyone to stop in on M-F mornings to have a look. Thanks to our building committee, Greg Goss, and an incredibly dedicated small group of helpers, we’ve successfully completed most of the demolition necessary to begin renovation.

Since our humble beginnings 10 years ago providing lunch to hungry school children, we are now providing groceries to about 350 families at our weekly grocery distributions. We also serve a large number of families each week at the Free Store, where clients can shop for good quality used clothing, outerwear and shoes, as well as personal care and some household items. This renovation will provide us with hundreds of square feet of new working space that is essential to continue to serve such a large number of families.

It takes a GIANT village to keep the trucks on the road, the freezers and refrigerators running, and to maintain the vehicles, buildings and property that has been entrusted to us to do this important work of reducing food insecurity. We need our village to pull together to get the job done! We are seeking corporate, community and individual donors to help us raise these critical funds to ensure the future of the pantry and Free Store. We appreciate all donations of time, talent and financial resources!
